Cornplanter Volunteers Assist Station 24 for a police incident.
Wed. Jan 13th 2010

In the early afternoon hours, Cornplanter Volunteers were alerted to respond to assist Seneca VFD on a shooting incident on Bredinsburg Rd in Cranberry Twp. A Shooter had ambushed two Pennsylvania State Police Troopers and shot one fatally. Seneca Volunteers were commited at the scene assisting dozens of police agencies and hundreds of police officers so Rescue 91 was requested to respond to Station 24 to cover the township. Rescue 91 responded with 6 EMT's. Shortly after rescue 91 went enroute, Fire Police 94 was requested to the scene to secure the entrances to Clarion University -Venango Campus and Venango Catholic High School as well as provide a roadblock on west first street. FP-94 responded with 3 members and 3 members going direct to the scene.  A crew also manned Station 6 to help cover the township and any engine responses for Station 24. Units operated until 19:32 after State Police SERT team members entered the residence and found the gunman dead.

The Cornplanter VFD would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Richey and PSP families. If there is anything that we can do for either family, please let us know. Cornplanter VFD operated on many scenes with Trooper Richey and he will be missed greatly.
